In classes, we work in depth on the development of basic musical abilities (musical hearing, sense of rhythm, and musical memory). We practice instruments alone and in an ensemble. Playing in an ensemble is an excellent way to develop the child’s ability to cooperate and listen to others. By practicing playing an instrument, the child learns to work hard, and this is good preparation for a child who might want to start learning some other instrument some day.

All children are welcome, regardless of whether they have had previous exposure to music or playing an instrument.

What do we do in class?

• We sing melodic echo games. These are exercises that develop musical hearing and consolidate relationships between sounds.
• We play rhythm games. Rhythm games are special model games through which the child develops a sense of rhythm. A sense of rhythm is the basis for playing music and learning an instrument.
• We play singing games and round dances. Singing games and round dances develop and consolidate the child’s musical hearing, sense of rhythm, and musical memory.
• We sing fun songs and play percussion instruments. We sing together and alone.
• The child develops the ability to hold a tune and increases the ability to cooperate with other children.
• The child also has the opportunity to test themselves in singing solo.
• Playing percussion instruments also develops all basic musical abilities.

In classes, children have the opportunity play on a zither and Orff instruments (percussion instruments and resonator bars assembled and adapted by C. Orff specifically for music studies (Studio 49’)). The music hall has a modern sound system with the option to use microphones.

The children attending the hobby group can perform at events organised by Väike Päike.
